Cody Piper – “Rain Man”

Another fantastic track from Cody Piper, “Rain Man” compels with its heartfelt, soul-searching lyricism and dynamic instrumentation, delighting in its psychedelic synth work and harmonious vocal layers. A psych-pop warmth ensues, pairing melodic approachability with personal themes, capturing the artist’s experience in Los Angeles, specifically written and recorded during a two-week stay in a Los Angeles Airbnb.

Piper handled all songwriting and production on the track, referencing rainy-day introspection and rainbow-set creativity alike. Twinkling effects and wordless vocal accents are particularly immersive as the track’s final minute approaches, cumulatively achieving a gorgeous sound with touches of surf-pop, soul, and sophisti-pop. It’s another standout from the artist, who also caught our ears last year with the track “Things May Change.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
