Eyecolour – “Clean”

Brisbane, Australia-based act Eyecolour capture the rush of a newly beginning night on “Clean,” pairing layered synths, jangling guitars, and post-punk bass with an increasingly emotive vocal presence. The band’s dark-pop sound draws from ’80s goth, dream pop, and French electronic music, retaining a DIY grain reminiscent of bootleg VHS aesthetics.

The production expands quickly and beautifully, from understated, spacey synth simmering to charismatic rhythms, crisp electric guitars, and vibrant synth adornments. The interplay of jangling guitars and illuminated synths exudes a sense of accelerated motion across the first 30+ seconds, maneuvering into a stirring proclamation. “i feel so clean,” they sing, now bolstered by a post-punk bass and synth synergy, as twangy guitars move alongside with stylish entrancement.

“I’m caught in a lie,” a memorable refrain launches into focus, inviting replays with its blend of anthemic hooks, spirited synths, and sturdy guitar jangles. Buzzing synths collide with pulses of guitar for a fantastic bridge just after the two-minute mark. A submerged vocal tone lingers alongside, driving into a final minute that wholly satiates with its “caught in a lie” resurgence and ongoing interplay between prancing synths and melodic guitars, before fading out into a lovely finality. “Clean” is an excellently melodic and momentum-filled track from Eyecolour.
