Rosenkranz – ‘One’ EP

/

Zurich-based artist Rosenkranz‘s debut EP One marks a new artistic chapter following the former 59 Perlen project. Built from four improvised live hardware sessions, the release documents spontaneous intersections between machines, room acoustics, and intuition, resulting in an organic ambient/drone collection that emphasizes process and sonic discovery.

“One” opens the EP with a spellbinding atmospheric pull, invoking an aquatic sort of realm in its glimmering, subdued synths and click-clacking rhythms. An arpeggiated colorfulness unveils past the one-minute turn, helping develop into a heavier bass pulse and ongoing synth-laden effervescence. The blissful build-up culminates in a more intense radiance by midpoint, shifting between upfront electronic illumination and bass-heavy intrigue. The ensuing “Two” is enthralling as well, here placed in a more park-like soundscape, with birdsong samples melding with sonorous synths, transitioning between lush ambience and more sweepingly grandiose sounds; the eclectic tonal range reminds fondly of Oneohtrix Point Never.

Meanwhile, “Three” commences with an ominous buzzing, further showcasing the artist’s range, moving between the preceding track’s brightness and this one’s shift into darker, industrial territory. Resonating vocal elements weave in and out of prominence, delectably robotic in their stutter-y effect alongside nocturnal synths. Next up, EP finale “Four” brings us back to the world of spacey electronica, bolstered by shimmering synths and emergences of brighter synth lines, for a lovably otherworldly electronic sound. One is a fantastic, fully engrossing EP success from Rosenkranz.
