Ypsilanti-based band TV Blackout unveils their first full-length, Loss of Control, showcasing the varied musical backgrounds of its four members into an eclectic 12-track set with a rock-forward focus. Formed in 2021 and reformed in its present state in late 2025, the band places songwriting at the center of its alternative rock approach.
“Eyes Burn Red” opens the album with an immediate burst of guitars and steady percussion, followed by an emotive lead delivery, enhanced by reflective backing harmonic allure. A twangy guitar solemnity takes hold as the one-minute turn approaches, diversifying well from the fuller rock production earlier. The phrasing, emitting a memorably ascending tone in the “never get out of bed / I stay up all night” line, then builds back seamlessly to the more all-enveloping guitar jangles. “My eyes burn red,” the performance continues, consuming in its melodic prowess, and into a fervent ascent thereafter in the “I am the one to blame” lyricism — showing range in both the stirring delivery and guitar prominence.
The highlights continue consistently throughout, ranging from the hard-rocking intensity of “Can’t Go Home,” unleashing a punk-friendly ardor in its sweltering phrasing and heavy guitar riffs, and the stellar string-touched “Slow Burn” to the excellent “Loss of Control.” The latter enamors particularly in its layered vocal interactions and dynamic guitar work, spanning from the midpoint’s lusher stylings and “left in the dark with nowhere to turn to” vocal laments to more erupting rock charisma. A full-length with stellar songwriting, Loss of Control is a consuming rock success from TV Blackout.
