ANGLES – “Bitter End”

/

A serenely captivating sound shows on “Bitter End,” a standout track from bi-coastal project ANGLES and their debut album, Dream for Me. The collaboration between New York songwriter and bassist Preston DeGarmo and his sister Rylie DeGarmo takes shape through understated instrumentation and finely interwoven melodies, with Rylie’s lead presence gliding over a patient arrangement that gradually expands into hazy harmonies and expressive guitar passages. The track exemplifies the project’s ability to create an intimate, enveloping atmosphere.

A beautifully melodic, dreamy production, a mellow bass resonance emerges amidst gentle percussion and keys. The rhythm section ascends in prominence as caressing guitars enter the mix, followed by Rylie’s magnetic lead presence. “Spacing, take it on my mind,” she lets out, ruminating how “times will always change, but I’m bracing.” The hypnotic bass line melds with balmy guitar textures as her delivery flows with gorgeous precision. “Need something else to understand, the way I′d like to be,” her performance continues to craft palpable momentum, driving into ghostly wordless harmonic layers and stirring guitar work in the track’s sating finale. “Bitter End” is a lovely track, on an album with an abundance of highlights.
