Chris Adkins – “Barfly”

“Barfly” is a compelling new single from Chris Adkins, delighting with a mixture of chilled-out guitar jangles and emotive, soaring lead power. Twangy guitars and a steady bass backing establish a lo-fi rock sound fit for late-night introspection, bolstered by the soaring performance’s “long days and hard nights” opening entrancement.

The ensuing “all my days” sequence further stirs, with intertwining delivery layers melding beautifully with the ongoing guitar crispness. The approach to the three-minute turn is particularly absorbing, where Adkins assumes a dreamy, submerged “fly away” refrain alongside prancing guitars, and into a wholly satisfying send-off from Chris Adkins.
