Multi Love – “Coldsleeper”

A lovely folk track with hypnotic ethereality and slight electronic adornments, “Coldsleeper” comes via Multi Love, a one-person bedroom project based in Japan. Coming via his debut EP, Letter, “Coldsleeper” is described by the artist as “about waking up in the early afternoon on a Tokyo summer day and wandering out with nowhere to be, seen through Heinlein’s The Door into Summer.”

The track was recorded and mixed entirely by Multi Love, who “grew up on Alex G and Elliott Smith” and is striving to “find a place for Japanese-language songs in that tradition.” “Coldsleeper” certainly succeeds, venturing from initial serene acoustics to a multi-layered delivery wooziness around the one-minute turn. Glimpses of hazy synths glimmer in thereafter, while second-half touches of distortion and twinkling lend further to the enveloping soundscape. “Coldsleeper” is a beautiful folk success from Multi Love.
