Released as a companion piece to Luc Seacroft’s forthcoming EP, “When You Look at Me” is moving track with striking vocal performances and a ghostly, melodic glow. Alongside the vocal additions of Horrible Sophie, the London-based Luc Seacroft weaves a quivering, haunting presence with mellow keys that escalate into a more expansive sound. The “what do you see — when you look at me?” vocal one-two punch within the alternating vocalists captures a nostalgic pop tone.
With the track’s production inspired by Phil Spector, Luc says the following: “There’s something about those songs that feels whole, they pack in so much into two minutes and hit you right in the heart. I wanted to capture that feeling and put it in the musical.” The story’s approach, in particular, was inspired by The Ronettes’ classic “Be My Baby.” A lonesome synth pad concludes this gem in nocturnal, serene form — effectively conveying Seacroft’s ability to churn out nostalgic, retro-friendly pop with inventive ideas.
