Laura Lang – ‘Bad Luck’ EP

///

Catching our ears with the evolving track “Black Sedan” in July, Memphis-based singer/songwriter Laura Lang continues showcasing a riveting blend of folk and rock throughout the Bad Luck EP.

Lang’s songs show a tendency to evolve from folk-friendly intimacy into versatile rock showings, from hard-rocking anthems to more dream-pop spectrums. “Body” is a lovely example of the latter; lush acoustics and breezy vocals evolve into a dreamily engrossing rise with textured guitars and soaring vocals. The aforementioned “Black Sedan” shows an initially similar folk-laden charm, budding instead into a riveting rock force.

A particular standout, with a more immediate rock-forward composure, is the EP’s title track. “Bad Luck” proves riveting with grungy guitar tones and yearning vocals, stirring with the “sink your teeth into me,” hook — exuding a ’90s alt-rock nostalgia. Lang’s new EP is a compelling showcase in quality songwriting and rock-destined structural evolution.
