Gateway Drugs – “Give Me Your Love”

Gateway Drugs

South African electronic duo Gateway Drugs show off their lush electro-pop allure on new single “Give Me Your Love”, which is a track off their upcoming album. The duo’s previous, eponymous album already showed them quite capable of producing nocturnal, Chromatics-like synth-pop with gorgeous atmospheres and strongly constructed hooks. The excellent “Night Swimming” (below) is a great example of that, as is the infectious Italo-disco duet “Summer Time”. Download Gateway Drugs’ debut album here, or stream it on Soundcloud.

Back to Gateway Drugs’ upcoming album, the stylistic approach of “Give Me Your Love” doesn’t tread too far from the duo’s previous material, but it does seem to have more of an airier effervescence, at least compared to their other efforts. Bubbly synths and a playfully patient drum machine makes the sound somewhat reminiscent of the more restrained efforts of Cut Copy or Hot Chip. While “Give Me Your Love” may not pack the atmospheric punch of tracks like “Night Swimming” and “Summer Time”, it’s one of the most delightfully catchy in Gateway Drugs’ catalog thus far — and one of the most pleasant electro-pop tracks I’ve heard so far this year. I’m looking forward to hearing Gateway Drugs’ new album, for sure.
