Paul Maged – “Light Years Away”

/

NYC rock singer/songwriter Paul Maged has impressed in the past, with 2014’s “Look At Me” and 2016’s “The Wild” showcasing impressive songwriting with emotional grit. His influences are all over the place – from Pearl Jam and Elvis Costello to Green Day and The Hold Steady – though the unifying factor is often an outspoken voice for social issues, as evidenced on those two previously featured tracks. With track titles like “PC Police” on his latest album Light Years Away, released on October 10th, that hasn’t changed.

The new album’s self-titled track is one of the most soaring, melodic releases from Maged thus far. The track is described as ” about humankind’s evolution within the universe and the consequences of its actions but is also an ode to loved ones we share our journey with.” Maged utilizes a pulsating electric guitar presence and charismatic vocal delivery, resulting in a ceaseless vein of rock that excels particularly in the spacey hook, with “higher” repeated in various vocal tones. It’s another success from a singer/songwriter veteran, whose career has stretched from Saturday Night Live backing roles to his own full-fledged musical career.
