WANR is the Oregon-based duo of Mitchell Winters and Bryce Miller, who craft an entrancing sound that collides James Blake’s sensual pop/R&B implementations with beautifully soaring soundscapes reminiscent of How to Dress Well. Relevant to that comparison, Winters’ vocals possess an airy, ethereal quality comparable to How to Dress Well’s Tom Krell, a tone and delivery that works exceedingly well over the fuzzy synth trickles, bumbling pop-bass, and toppling percussion on standout track “The Finest Things”, off their Cityscape EP from last year. WANR produces a lush balance of sounds from a wide palate of influences; everything from recent electro-pop phenomenons like HtDW, Active Child, and James Blake are in play alongside ’80s pop innovators like Prefab Sprout and Erasure. Check these guys out, for sure.
