Cody Crump – “Seventeen”

“Seventeen” is an endearing track of enduring love from Cody Crump, a rising singer/songwriter from Los Angeles who reminds partly of Elliott Smith’s breath-y vocals, Bright Eyes’ emotive acoustical escapades, and Coconut Records’ concisely bright pop. “I just want you to know that I’m coming home,” he sings during the hook, enhanced by guitars and keys in the final go-around, with an additional female vocal accompaniment providing a beautiful addition throughout. Another more recent track of his, “Just Another Day”, showcases a fuzzier, more power-pop direction, reminiscent of The New Pornographers’ chops — which is a very good thing.

These two tracks alone show an act with a smart melodic ear and eclectic stylistic reach.
