HAND – “LOOP 03 Lied von der Sehnsucht”

/

HAND is the project of Berlin-based musician Sascha Bachmann, who pursues an ambient-techno sound that crafts hypnotic soundscapes via tape loops and electronic beats. Bachmann started the project four years ago, when working as a professional drummer. “This is definitely an important project for me, not only because everything concerning music, video and artwork comes from my heart — I even recorded my own heartbeat, cause it fits with the ambient sounds I am creating,” he explains. “On stage I am using an 8-track reel-to-reel tape machine, as well as projections of processed super8 movies.”

The five tracks on HAND’s latest release, DEBUT, all showcase a different sound, exemplary of Bachmann’s eclectic reach. Opener “Anfang” touts industrial dread with the creaking and machine-like murmur, not too distant from the aesthetic of Burial. “Heimatlied” warms things a bit with its embracing string presence. Meanwhile, “Lied von der Sehnsucht” uses that aforementioned heartbeat in the midst of a heavenly, growing vocal pad under a subtle bass beat. This is a consuming, striking release that shows a talented electronic artist on the rise.

The striking video is animated by video artist Ruffmercy.
