Bad Columbus – “Wyalusing”

Bad Columbus are an act from Ashland, Wisconsin, whose new five-track EP More UNABASHED Rock from Bad Columbus is a great representation of the act’s eclectic talents. One of the highlights, “I’ve Never Played This Version Of Cards Before (Even The Stars)” traverses through string arrangements and classic-rock-styled guitar solos to fit somewhere between rock and country-laden folk. It all works exceedingly well. Meanwhile, a track like “Benihana” has an enjoyably frantic psych-forward pull with the organs and guitar fuzz. Opener “Wyalusing” is among the most immediate to captivate, showing a fun and unabashed vein of rock that’s parts early Weezer and parts New Pornographers. The vocals project a crisp, airy, and melodic feel reminiscent of AC Newman.
