Premiere: nRCS – “Take a Chance”

/

“Take a Chance” is a track off nRCS’ new EP of the same name, releasing today. The track touts a nocturnal tint from the get-go — lyrically with “it’s dark on every street,” and the ’80s-inspired synth flickering. With the captivating atmosphere firmly established, the track’s melody begins to impress with the bouncy transition into the chorus just past the one-minute mark. The “take a chance,” hook brings the track from nighttime into daylight, adding an effervescence to the soundscape. “Take a Chance” is a melodically stimulating success with commendable tonal variation between darkness and brightness.

nRCS’ Fionn Knyper – a San Francisco bred, Brooklyn-based singer/musician with a past as a veteran rock drummer – only recently took on frontman duties. Along the way, he caught the ear (and keyboard duties) of previously featured Memoryy (Shaun Hettinger), who, along with chillwave artist Brothertiger (John Jagos), helped polish the dreamy indie-pop debut EP.

The project’s previously featured effort, “Run Through the Rain,” also featured Memoryy and Brothertiger, its captivating sound going on to scale the Hype Machine charts.

“Take a Chance” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2018’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Catchy Electro and Synth-Pop.
