Mere Child – “Cold Light of Day”

/

The music of Aimee Herbert-Smith has stirred me for over a year now, with her Morning Myth project – alongside guitarist Ross King – showing a Mazzy Star-esque allure and glowing elements of dream-pop. Her latest project, Mere Child carries on the dreamy vocal captivation of Morning Myth, though with a more contemplative, folk-forward sound on new track “Cold Light of Day.” Lush acoustics and hints of strings permeate as Herbert-Smith’s soft, melancholic vocals emerge, ascending in emotion throughout and into a conclusion where the track title is repeated for hypnotic, spine-tingling emphasis. “Cold Light of Day” is more atmospheric goodness from this talented singer/songwriter.

“Cold Light of Day” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Folk.
