The Bops – “Hey Shmoopy”

/

The quaint lo-fi rocker “Hey Shmoopy” features a hypnotic vocal presence, twangy guitars, and a generally rainy-day vibe that results in a memorable listening experience. The track comes courtesy of Silver Lake, Los Angeles trio The Bops, comprised of vocalist Sydney and multi-instrumentalist Christian. Meshing a love for ’60s and ’70s greats like Dylan and The Beach Boys with an admiration for current female-driven indie acts like Japanese Breakfast and Alvvays, The Bops churn out a no-frills, engaging sound. “Hey Shmoopy” excels especially in its lingering, guitar-fronted outro, where twangy guitars do work in adding some fervor to the mellow beauty that preceded.

“Hey Shmoopy” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2019’ Spotify playlist.
