Premiere: why try – “signal (your effect)”

/

Montreal act why try just dropped their new track “signal (your effect)” — a great showing of the project’s atmospheric pop sound. Calming vocals and string flourishes are quick to emerge, establishing a chamber-pop sort of spaciousness. Aesthetically, this is a gorgeous track, lovely and lush — like a modern and successful take on electronic sophisti-pop. The guitar twangs and wordless vocals that assemble around 01:34 is especially effective in that aforementioned sophisti-pop vein, with the ensuing vocal hook more reflective of modern pop sentiments. “signal (your effect)” shows excellent variation and melodic strengths throughout its 4+ minutes; this is a track that firmly establishes why try as a project to pay close attention to.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Sophisti-Pop [all years].
