People Club – “Better”

/

“Better” succeeds in multiple facets. Sarah Martin’s vocals are supremely emotive, channeling a sort of yearning, grunge-oriented tone that exudes idiosyncrasies while retaining a melodically accessible spirit. The “I can do better,” repetition plays with a sincere, gripping allure. Stylistically, the track pursues a captivating middle ground between psych-pop, electro-pop, and rock. Overall, it’s a very strong showing from People Club, an act presently based in Berlin. The band formed in 2017, and is comprised of Sarah Martin (lead vocals), Ray Sonder (bass & backing vocals), Saxon Gable (guitar & backing vocals), Pete Costello (synth & backing vocals), and Drew Deal (percussion). I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more from People Club.

“Better” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2019’ Spotify playlist.
