Road to Arcanum – “MaMa”

/

“MaMa” crafts a haunting and riveting soundscape, casting a certain sort of engrossing darkness that acts like Nick Cave and Marissa Nadler have ventured into. Certainly, Melbourne-based act Road to Arcanum are adept at crafting a mood here. Members Eden and Fredric show a fondness for the darkwave genre, emphasizing the style’s knack for darkly romantic and yearning moods with a guitar-centric approach. The vocals sound intense though increasingly haunting, as the steady growth of guitar distortion and steady percussion serve as an atmosphere-enhancing backdrop. “MaMa” consumes, and never quite lets go until its abrupt though riveting conclusion.

“MaMa” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2019’ Spotify playlist.
