The Edinburgh-formed group continues its exploration of love, loss, and hope on the latest single, following 2019 full-length Malin Head. The group originally formed in Edinburgh, and its members come from across Scotland, England, and Spain.
The track’s production delights throughout in an approachably emotive vein of rock, commencing with evident warmth in the array of jangling guitars, glistening keys, and heartfelt organ. The “when you came to me” delivery exudes a stirring quality, with the ongoing “you were never coming home” realization melding with a momentum-filled arsenal of those twangy guitars and steady organs. “To the night I whisper your name,” the lyrics then expand into a lovely hook, where dreamy guitar invitations pair with absorbing keys as the lead performance takes a momentary reprieve.
The memorable Americana sound continues to delight throughout, stirring across both the lyrically led moments of ardor and the more introspective instrumentation, again taking hold as the conclusion approaches.
