Blume – “Take It Back”

//

“Take It Back” is a moody, dreamy dose of atmosphere from Blume, the post-punk/shoegaze project of Arthur Bennell. The project — based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada — began in 2015, with a new EP titled Days Go By released on October 4th. The nocturnal, hypnotic vibe of the EP is ideal for autumnal listening, as evidenced by standout “Take It Back.” The repeating “I wish I could take it back,” succeeds over hazy synths and fluidly chill guitars — echoing a vibe reminiscent of early Ariel Pink (in the mellowest sense). “Take It Back” is an atmospheric trip that’s easy to get lost in, with the rest of the EP succeeding similarly.

Bennell notes that the album was “recorded on a multitrack Tascam … it has a lo-fi feel with a lot of textures to create unique atmosphere and mood.” Stream Days Go Slowly below:

“Take It Back” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Late Night Drives.
