thirdcurl – “Ordinary Life”

/

“Ordinary Life” is a new track from thirdcurl, the project of multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Bødker Johnson. Alongside drummer Casper Iskov, Johnson shows an engaging sound, initially exuding a confident vocal presence reminiscent of Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker. The ensuing “we forgot to talk about it,” escalation is surrounded by amplifying rhythmic pulsations, structurally reminiscent of LCD Soundsystem. Apparent by now is a bunch of nostalgic nuggets throughout. “I am very inspired by the way records were made back in the day and therefore most of my takes are one takes,” Johnson notes. Appropriately, a feeling of spontaneity is present via the track’s melodic punch and authentic swagger.

“Ordinary Life” is the first single from the project’s upcoming 5-track EP, No Such Thing As Happiness.

“Ordinary Life” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2019’ Spotify playlist.
