Modesta are an indie-rock duo from Boston, crafting a hypnotic and gripping sound on the track “Opus,” the opener on Modesta’s new 4-track EP, Ode to the Peculiar. Modern rock sensibilities combine with ’60s psych-friendly influence, with wordless backing vocal croons and a hypnotic guitar melody impressing between the vocal leads. Aesthetically, I’m fondly reminded of Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Tame Impala. The duo of Arjun Viswanathan and Kostas Papadopoulos impress with a dazed, chilled-out rock sound that succeeds in its aesthetic and melodic allure.
