Matt Nice & The Derls – “Do You Dream At All”

//

Creeping strings, a thumping bass, and flashes of woodwinds usher an enthralling intro to “Do You Dream At All,” an engrossing new track from Matt Nice & The Derls. The California-based act craft a uniquely effective mood here. Strings and vocals combine for a spine-chilling, eerily consuming quality — reminiscent of Timber Timbre. There’s a bit of The Waterboys in the consuming, string-forward mood as well. The track’s vocals assume a more howling, emotive form as the track progresses, culminating in the addition of suave guitars in the conclusion. “Do You Dream At All” definitely has me anticipating more from Matt Nice & The Derls. This track and “Ballad of a Rich Man” show ample songwriting ability.

“Do You Dream At All” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2020’ Spotify playlist.
