The Cynical Express is the latest full-length from Melbourne-based artist Ivan Beecroft. Last catching my ear with the track “Inequality” last June, Beecroft returns with an album emphasizing no-frills rock ‘n’ roll. A confident baritone lead combines with nostalgic guitar tones and a hook-centered savvy that recalls classic rock. Opener “Rattle Those Chains” is fully indicative of this sound, highlighted by a catchy bridge and chorus that merges power-pop with classic-rock sentiments. Other album highlights include the bluesy “Psycho Woman” and heavy rocker “Insomnia.”
