Calico Mantra – “The Madmen”

//

A clear nod to ’60s psychedelic music, and Bowie and The Beatles in particular, “The Madmen” is a melodic new track from Nashville-based duo Calico Mantra. The track’s Bowie-esque vocal delivery is enjoyably nostalgic, as are the wordless vocal layering additions in a Beatles/Kinks-esque vein. The string-laden undercurrent around 02:05 leading to “keep the madman,” line plays with infectious charm. More than just a nostalgic ode, “The Madmen” sports several twists – “no one will ever,” vocal line, in particular – that shows the duo’s original songwriting strengths in full form.

“”The Madmen” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2020’ Spotify playlist.

  1. As good as I find “The Madmen”, it is Calico Mantra’s second single “Walk in the Park” that hits it out of “Park”. Even more so than their two most recent singles. Would love to read your take on their follow-up singles
