Pekoe Cat – “Menace”

//

The latest from Pekoe Cat, the project of multi-instrumentalist/producer Kyle Woolven, is mesmerizing psych-rocker “Menace.” Complete with a trippy, consuming video animated and directed by Juno nominee Johnny Jansen, “Menace” is a captivating release from Pekoe Cat, who has impressed in the past with tracks like “Northern Light” and “A Maze.” “Menace” follows up last year’s Jungle Cop, Pekoe Cat’s debut with Light Organ Records.

A thumping bass and trickling guitars lead to set “Menace” in motion. Haunting vocals emerge thereafter, with 01:30 kick-starting into more frenzied rock territory. Pulsing guitars ring as escalating vocals ask “isn’t it peculiar?” — then evolving into a wordless psych-rock romp section. “Menace” is another successful showing from Woolven.

“Menace” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
