jjoey – “Paper Cups”

//

“Paper Cups” is an environmentally conscious rocker from jjoey, the first single from the artist’s sophomore release, Oak. “Everyone is leaving trash on the ground,” the vocals repeat, with a hypnotic melodic charm aided by the suave vocals and guitar layers — fondly reminiscent of Pavement, especially as the guitar-fronted expansion invigorates past the two-minute mark. Concluding with trickling acoustics amidst the now-lusher rock arsenal, “Paper Cups” is a fully consuming listen from jjoey. I’m fully anticipating the 10-track Oak, whose performance and recording is done entirely by jjoey.

“Paper Cups” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2020’ Spotify playlist.
