maxwell rose – “New Sweater”

/

A spirited and infectious track from maxwell rose, “New Sweater” develops enjoyably from understated bossa nova-inspired beginnings into an anthemic pop riser. The suave verses expand with vigor upon the chorus, preceded by a confident self-reflection in the mirror. Brisk guitars converge with a playful key-laden backing charm as the vocals show an extra punch. Past the two-minute mark, a clever bridge builds to a particularly satisfying hook, featuring an initially wordless version of the chorus with escalating keys and guitars. “New Sweater” exudes accessible, highly melodic appeal throughout.

Per the artist: “The lyrics are positive and self-reflective, speaking about becoming a better person, balancing what you like and dislike about your current and past selves as you trade in the “old sweater” of your identity for something new.”

“New Sweater” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
