Arktik Lake – “Shimmer”

A psych-friendly slice of jangly rock, “Shimmer” is the opening track from the EP of the same name, from rock collective Arktik Lake. The hypnotic guitar jangles throughout conjure a familiarly inviting feel; guitarist Marty Willson-Piper, formerly of Australian psych-rock staples The Church, leads throughout the EP — alongside drummer Nigel Macara, guitarist Tony Rumble, vocalist Olivia Willson-Piper, and bassist DC. “Stand back and let it watch,” Marty sings as the guitars escalate with shimmering qualities; Olivia Willson-Piper’s backing vocals add a delightful quality at points throughout. The “galaxies of stars,” and “astral travelling,” lyrics plays poignantly, the guitars exuding a spacey jangle that exudes an atmospheric pull. “Shimmer” richly opens an EP that captivates throughout.
