Fog Chaser – “Seeking / Calling”

“Seeking / Calling” marks the third track release from Fog Chaser, the solo instrumental project of multi-instrumentalist and composer Matthew M. Evans. The Pacific Northwest-based artist strives successfully for a cinematic sound, which on “Seeking / Calling” impresses with a piano-based allure. Driving piano and steadily escalating percussion are swiftly joined by orchestral ardency, a seeming mixture of woodwind and strings converging into several layers past the 30-second mark with a delicate vulnerability; in this aesthetic, I’m fondly reminded of scores from Nicholas Britell (specifically, for Moonlight (2016) and If Beale Street Could Talk (2018)). “Seeking / Calling” presents stirring songwriting and musicianship from Fog Chaser.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2022’ Spotify playlist.
