Monroe Moon – “WAR”

/

Playful synth flourishes and sporadic guitar twangs adorn riveting vocals throughout “WAR,” the new track from Monroe Moon, an American and English experimental pop duo based in Michigan. This anti-war anthem plays with hypnotic strengths throughout; the steady bass line, loopy synths, and post-punk guitar tones make for a consuming aesthetic.

Bunny Monroe’s vocals tout a commanding, confident presence that explores the mind-enveloping, anxiety-ridden effects of war. Initially written in 2021 about ongoing US military conflicts around the world, the track is particularly poignant now as well. “They got your mind,” Monroe repeats amidst a booming bass, into the infectious “ooh-na-na-na,” vocal hook, resonating with a replay-inducing charm.

“WAR” was recorded alongside two other tracks; the three will be released as an EP at the end of 2022, thematically “about peace, love, and the human experience.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2022’ Spotify playlist.
