6 of the Best Songs Ever About Gambling

If you grew up in the 80s, you must have sung along to Kenny Rogers song, The Gambler. Capturing such thrill and excitement of a casino is not easy to put in a song. Although some songs have incorporated well with the experience, capturing the significant losses and huge gambling wins is a daunting task.

Here are the best songs about gambling, so bring out the cards and crack open a beer.

Kenny Rogers – The Gambler

The Gambler is a song about a man who played poker for a long time. Kenny placed lyrics such as ‘knowing what the cards were’ and ‘I’ve made a life out of reading people, which gives a picture of the gambler’s life.

Some parts of the lyrics, including ‘know when to fold them,’ advise poker players on when to accept defeat. Up to date, The Gambler is dear to many with the total views amounting to 162,299,363

Motorhead – Ace of Spades

Ian Kilmister sings of the Ace of Spades casino game. If you listen to the lyrics, you get blackjack terms such as a double stake or split and double up or quit. There are also some poker lines such as I know you gotta see me, the dead man’s hand again, and pushing up the ante.

Elvis Presley – Viva Las Vegas

Viva Las Vegas is one of the best songs about Las Vegas. In the 1990s and 2000, Viva Las Vegas featured in the film Viva Las Vegas which earned $9,442,967 at the box office. This song talks of a man having mad fun in City of Lights.

Jerry Reed- When You’re Hot, You’re Hot

Jerry’s song is about a gambler and his two friends. As Jerry narrates, the gambler wins big until the police officer interrupts. Upon appearing before a magistrate, the gambler discovers he is one of his creditors. The gambler agrees to pay back the magistrate’s debt for a lighter sentence; he gets 90 days of jail time. On the other hand, his two friends get small fines.

Sting- Shape of My Heart

The shape of my heart talks about poker but not about money dealings. Sting is looking for meaning in his life experiences with poker lines. For instance, I know that clubs are weapons of war, or I know the spades are the swords of a soldier relaying his interpretation of the cards.

While sting interprets the meaning of clubs, spades, and diamonds, he cannot interpret the meaning of the heart. He sings ‘That is not the shape of my heart,’ the lyrics he identifies with.

AC/DC- The Jack

You should definitely mention AC/ DC when talking about a woman after a grown man’s tears. In her song The Jack, she includes poker lines such as ‘she played em hard,’ ‘she played em fast, ‘and ‘she’d have the card to bring me down if she played it right.

Finally, different online magazines report that casinos prefer soft music and lights. The truth is, all the above gambling songs are soft music. Even musicians know what’s best for every gambler.
