“Golden Tree” is a gripping track released today from DAAY, a London-based 6-piece led by Alex Barty-King. The band’s powerful sound is on full display, with an escalating rock feel joined by jazz-influenced percussion and saxophone involvement. “Golden Tree” touts a stirring, diverse song structure that ranges from brooding rock theatrics to cinematic brassy stomps — all while projecting a compelling melodic direction throughout.

Ominous guitar tones and enigmatic brassy injections converge with an escalating vocal delivery for an invigorating feeling as “Golden Tree” rises. The “we are free again,” line soars into a heavily atmospheric and stylistically varied section. The vocals fade momentarily as glistening synths emanate into a multi-layered vocal warmness. The second half, and the track’s generally free-spirited embrace, reminds fondly of later-era Talk Talk. “Golden Tree” is an enthralling success from DAAY.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2022’ Spotify playlist.
