An absorbing track from upcoming EP Real Followers Guaranteed, the debut release from North Carolina-based duo Real Followers, “Engagement” dazzles in its development from initially dreamy introspection to a strongly danceable infectiousness, reminiscent of Hot Chip.
Comprising producers Treee City and Tin Foil Hat, Real Followers immerse with “Engagement,” whose initial “waking up, to live another day” vocals meld with calming keys and pit-pattering rhythms. Head-nodding rhythms and buzzy synths ensue, culminating in a contagious hook at the one-minute mark, where wordless vocals and pulsing synths pair with replay-inducing effect. This is an excellent track that has me firmly anticipating the forthcoming EP from Real Followers.
