Energizing with its punk-rock nostalgia and anti-establishment call to action, “Tuning In” is a newly released track from Teen Mortgage, a Washington, D.C.-based act fronted by vocalist/guitarist James Guile and drummer Drummer Ed Barakauskas. They were also featured last month with the track “Valley.

The band describe the track as “a call to action to ignore news platforms run by the 5 big media conglomerates and to think for yourself.” A steady percussive pulse and snarling bass line complement a steady punk-friendly vocal delivery, aided by a gradual onset of guitar-based fervency.

The consistently enthused verses evolve seamlessly into the distortion-friendly chorus, referencing “tuning in,” with a dry satisfaction. Backing vocal effects rounding the two-minute mark also concoct a sense of Brit-pop, in the vein of early Supergrass. “Tuning In” is another invigorating success from Teen Mortgage.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2022’ Spotify playlist.
