Unreliable Narrator – “Sick Machine”

/

A spacious, woozy track from Unreliable Narrator, “Sick Machine” continues showcasing the Rod Lauver’s inventive songwriting, featured last year with “Not Much I’m Into (Only You).”

“This song is about coming to terms with taking care of a Sick Machine,” Rod says. “I used mostly heavily effected guitars, some synths, and a good mix of live drums and drum machines. I recorded everything in my home in Baltimore, MD.”

The opening line — referring to “temporary measures,” — creaks gently alongside mellow keys and sporadic bird-chirping. The multi-layered vocal effects during the “try,” refrain leads into a charming, twinkling interlude as the second minute approaches, illuminating the project’s strong atmospheric abilities — even further reinforced by the textured conclusion. “Sick Machine” is another standout from Unreliable Narator.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2022’ Spotify playlist.
