Ava Swan – “Birthday”

/

Jangly guitars and melodic vocals lead on “Birthday,” the latest track from Ava Swan, a Nashville-based artist who was originally raised in Montana.

Lyrics reflect the “disquieting feeling of losing time,” reflected in one’s annual day of birth — and how it gradually turns from celebrating party favors to feelings of time being overly fleeting. “I don’t wanna think about it,” the vocals sigh following the first chorus, reflecting how “I’m still growing up,” even as time demands a sense of abruptness.

Featuring a polished instrumental arsenal with twangy rock and folk appeal, the track’s melodic hold remains firm throughout. In particular, the “why do I feel like crying?” hook excels with its moody guitar twangs, which settle into a gorgeous acoustic-laden charm. “Birthday” enamors with its quality songwriting and breezy production.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2022’ Spotify playlist.
