Lord Sonny the Unifier – “We’re Electric”

/

Impressing prior with tracks like “The Starman” and “I Love You World,” Brooklyn-based artist Lord Sonny the Unifier succeeds in the realms of psych and prog-rock with the new single “We’re Electric.” The track precedes the artist’s upcoming album, America’s Newest Hitmaker, releasing on March 3rd.

“We’re Electric” is a fun ride throughout, hearkening back to glam-rock in the vein of T.Rex alongside some modern reminiscences. Heavy blasts of guitar distortion intermingle cohesively with playful synths and spirited vocal stomps, making for a climactic introduction. A suave vocal lead injects ample intrigue as the piano-laden melody resonates, ascending into a prog-rock fervency as the one-minute mark passes.

“This was an album I imagined Bowie would have made right after Scary Monsters if he didn’t go the Nile Rogers route and grabbed Iggy Pop instead, cranked the guitars and picked out of his closet some of his old synthesizers,” the artist says, regarding the upcoming America’s Newest Hitmaker, which I’m absolutely anticipating.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.
