“Hopes” is a resonating new single from Perdurabo, a project from Davide Arneodo, who describes the track as “about light and darkness: contrasts of our own existence.” The diverse verses and central rise show stirring differences, aptly, within a sharply produced electronic pop sound embracing wintry sonic textures. The chorus’ “I am free at last,” line resonates following lyrical observations about a sense of defeat.

Mysterious synth tones and steady percussion surround lyrics emitting a sense of emotive fatigue. The cathartic “I’m alive,” vocal livens the charisma, arriving alongside resonating synths and eventual guitar flickers. The structure seems to evoke the natural ups-and-downs within life, and the emotions that accompany them. Suave, contemplative verses drive to the exhilarating, buzzing chorus with anthemic replay-inducing strengths.

The track was mixed in London by producer Gareth Jones and mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis Studios. Guest vocalists include Daudi Matsiko, Tom Adams, and Miro Shot. Jörg Wähner (Apparat) contributes drums, and Gabriele Giletta helped with “atmospheres, additional analogs, and modular systems.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.
