Mono Sources – “Our Own”

//

Enamoring with an understated yet melodic alt-pop sound, intertwining guitars and spacey synths, “Our Own” is a recent single from Mono Sources. Led by the duo of Brett Bixby and Jesse Nason, the Long Beach-based project show a skillfulness in crafting lushly engrossing pop soundscapes.

The track’s escalation is fully compelling. “We’re every day right, every day wrong,” Bixby’s vocals let out during the heartfelt bridge, culminating in a more rock-ready chorus with delectable guitar work. “Save us from our own,” he sings there, genuinely replay-inducing in its melodic arrival. Per the band: “The synth sound is unconsciously inspired by the song ‘Don’t you Know’ by the Jan Hammer Group.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2023’ Spotify playlist.
