Winkler – “City Rain”

//

A nostalgic blast of psych-pop and classic rock, “City Rain” is a delightful new single from Boston-based band Winkler. The opening track on their debut album, “City Rain” is written by the band’s drummer and producer (Christian Schmidt), about his childhood best friend — “an ode to long lasting, loving friendships.”

Ascending quickly with a popular previous single “Mona” (100k+ streams) and opening for the likes of Loving and Drugdealer at Somerville’s the Crystal Ballroom, the band now impresses with their newly released 8-song album, For You, Now. “City Rain” is enjoyably representative of the charming, hooky songwriting throughout. Bouncy piano pulses and playful vocals — “drinking the city rain,” — are joined by reflective acoustics and melodic guitars, upon the yearning to “love to have a band with you.”

The track’s amiable lyricism builds to a suave, hooky chorus, while the final minute enamors with twangy guitar-driven theatrics. “City Rain” compels thoroughly, and kickstarts the rest of a standout album, streaming below:
