Stockholm-based artist Augustine crafts a dreamy spell on new track “Mary Cookins,” conjuring a ’70s mellow pop nostalgia alongside lyrics that explores the myriad of emotions apparent in the journey of life. A stunning production, complete with strings and hypnotic synths, radiates throughout the release, which represents Augustine’s first original single since his 2021 debut EP, Weeks Above the Earth.

The track’s introduction unveils a gorgeous soundscape, with vintage-sounding strings and effervescent textures leading the way. A playful synth-laden bounce precedes the dreamy vocals’ emergence. “Take me in your arms and watch me perish in real time,” the vocals call out amidst gentle guitar pulses, adorned subsequently by the plucky synth vibrations and a punctuating harp-like glistening. Caressing, melodically reflective vocals carry a beautiful conclusion, putting a bow on this standout success from Augustine.

“This was the first song that came to me in this album process and we had so much fun making it in a little cabin in the south of Sweden. Everything just fell into place and I felt like it marked a new beginning after a break from the studio,” Augustine says.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2023’ Spotify playlist.
