Humble Francis – “Last Call”

/

An anthemic and emotive track detailing loss, “Last Call” is a catching single from Humble Francis, the project of Denver-based Ryan Hamilton Hughes. “So much I don’t know,” he sings during the bouncy chorus, with sharply playful synths and responsive backing vocals hooking. A wave of heavier, angsty guitars guide into the ensuing bridge, showcasing an ability to shift seamlessly between bouncier synth-pop leanings and rock-friendly vigor. The central hook exudes a fondness reminiscent of Future Islands. “Last Call” is an infectious, heartfelt success from Humble Francis.

Humble Francis says the following: “I wrote this song about the most difficult moment of my life, the ‘last call’ to my father. I didn’t know I would be the last person to ever talk to him.”

Look out for the upcoming full-length from Humble Francis, out later this year.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2023’ Spotify playlist.
