“X Marks The Spot” is a bouncily lush pop delight from Berries, a band based in Norfolk/Virginia Beach. Glistening synth bounces and hazy guitar reflections lead into a yearning opening sequence: “I think I lost myself in you, now you’re gone, and I’m gone too.” An ascending guitar line drives to a jangly composure and synth re-entry, as the delightful chorus takes hold: “I’m right here. Where are you?”
Reminding of Phoenix in its tight rhythm section, colorful keys, and hooky vocal melodies, Berries show a stellar pop savvy with “X Marks The Spot.”
