Futon Blonde – “Sun Waves”

/

Austin-based band Futon Blonde show a twangy rock allure on their new song “Sun Waves,” off their new album, Something That We’ve All Experienced Together Before. Lead guitarist Mike Webb’s songwriting stands out, with hazy verses guiding with intrigue into a peppy and playful chorus.

The wordless vocal amiability glides into a rousing guitar-fronted rise approaching the two-minute turn, firmly reminding of The War on Drugs. The ensuing “I could never,” vocal breakthrough plays with a stirring, impassioned quality that gears into a buzzing guitar suaveness. A familiar, accessible first minute or so grows into a series of dynamic guitar tones and vocal twists, further evident of the act’s hook-minded rock sound.
