After – “In a city called Garden”

Taking inspiration from the mystique-filled electronic soundscapes of Portishead, “In a city called Garden” is a new track from After, the duo of Graham Epstein and Justine Dorsey. Chilling strings and eventual spoken-word entrancement converge on this delightful production, standing strong throughout this second single from the act.

Twinkling keys and strings appear intermittently amidst the driving guitar wandering, as the vocals play with a yearning, escapist sentiment — reflective of “a mystical journey through an imaginary world inspired by video games and fantasy novels.” The spoken-word section proves hypnotic amidst the twinkling keys and gauzy strings, furthering the riveting soundscape.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.
