The Shallows – “Soft Night”

/

Shoegaze-y guitar textures and dream-pop vocal stylings excel on “Soft Night,” the latest single from Boston-based band The Shallows. Marking the third single from their upcoming album, Wave States, “Soft Night” hypnotizes with delicate guitar pulsations and a haunting backing shimmering.

Vocalist Jess Baggia (This Bliss, Man Trouble) exudes a caressing initial delivery, rising seamlessly past the first minute as hazy shoegaze-friendly guitars and synth-laden flourishes converge gorgeously. “Soft Night” beautifully balances dreamy pop with atmospheric shoegaze influence.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Dream-Pop + Shoegaze.
